Neurology

We are one of the leading chiropractic centres for functional neurology in Canada.

Functional neurology is at the forefront of neuroscience and is an exciting approach to health care. We activate and challenge your brain and body, optimize your sensory-motor systems and help you perform at your best.

Treatments typically consist of a series of gentle activities, hand-eye coordination and body movement exercises, as well as specific head and eye exercises to correct any inconsistent neurological findings.

When results begin to stabilize or return to normal, patients almost always begin to feel better. Functional neurology is based on a thorough understanding of the physiology and anatomy of the brain, spinal cord, nerves and muscles that coordinate, move and balance the skeletal structure of our body.

How does functional neurology work?
How does functional neurology work?

Functional neurology (chiropractic neurology) works by activating receptors located throughout the body (think of the 5 senses: light, sound, taste, touch, smell + sense of movement (proprioception), inner ear function, bowel / digestion and autonomic system / cognition). All receptors travel as signals between our environment and the nerves of our body. Our brains receive information, process it and make a decision on the appropriate way to react.

Cortex
The concept of neuroplasticity

A key concept in the understanding of functional neurology is "neuroplasticity". Nerve connections in the brain are considered "plastic" because they can be formed or modified by sensory, motor, cognitive or emotional experiences. Simply put, what you are exposed to can rebuild your nervous system.

While this system was once considered "fixed" or unable to change after full maturity, we now know that your brain is capable of making remarkable changes every day of your life. A nerve cell can develop connections with new neurons (synaptogenesis) and even spread to areas of great range (neuronal migration).

Functional neurology promotes the healthy plasticity of the nervous system through effective stimulation. Treatment aims not only to protect the nervous system, but also to give it the activation it needs to flourish. We now know that even a malfunctioning nervous system can be re-educated, often with progressive and permanent success.

How can we help you?

Because we know that your health cannot be rushed, our initial assessment usually takes two hours.

The first visit consists of an interview and a complete examination of your condition.

Interview: We ask specific questions about your condition and health history. It is important to know in detail what you are currently feeling in order to discover factors that may have contributed to your condition or that may affect the prognosis.

Du temps en famille

Examination: We will conduct a complete series of postural, mobility, motor, orthopedic and neurological tests. We also use high-tech instruments to quantify your neurological function or other tests to establish an accurate diagnosis.

Based on the results of the examination and our specific diagnostic findings, we are able to create an innovative treatment program designed to meet your individual needs based on your specific functional neurological problem or deficit.

A treatment program consists of three components. The first involves an evaluation with our nutritionist. The second component consists of rehabilitation sessions at our clinic under our supervision and the final component consists of specific exercises to be done at home as an integral part of the treatment. Repetition is the language of the brain!

Most of the treatments we provide have been used in health care for decades. The main difference is how we apply them.

Our research-based, evidence-based approaches are based on using technology and our experience to identify underperforming areas of the brain and facilitate the brain's natural ability to grow and change. Treatments and services are designed not only to relieve symptoms and improve function, but also to restore quality of life - all without the use of invasive procedures or medication.
